So Here is the Story
A Challenge...to myself.
A statement was made to me by my father recently he found a note that I had written to my brother a long time ago and he told me, "This was not written by an average joe, you need to be in school studying English somewhere. You can still do it." And well, it has kind of stuck with me. I have always thought of myself as the scholarly type I think that that world would suit me just fine as my dreams of culinary rockstardom seem to be slipping farther out of my grasps. I find myself lost.
I have decided to go on a journey through the written word to see, if maybe this is the right choice for me. At the end who knows what will happen.
20 Books, all pulled from my bookcases, all pretty well known, mostly classics drawn at random and read in that order. There is a mixture of all sorts. To add to this little project I will also be reading Thomas C. Foster's How To Read Literature Like a Professor. I will blog a "book report' of sorts after every book...just to give myself a task...and I hope to have this all done before December. Why, to give myself a deadline.
So here is the list:
To The Lighthouse - Virginia Woolfe
The Wizard of Oz - L. Frank Baum
A Portrait of The Artist As a Young Man - James Joyce
Wuthering Heights - Emily Bronte
Emma - Jane Austen
Animal Farm - George Orwell
Nine Stories - J. D. Salinger
Dr. Zhivago - Boris Pasternack
To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee
Siddartha- Herman Hesse
The Heart Is A Lonly Hunter - Carson McCullers
Love In The Time of Cholera - Gabriel Garcia Marquez
Look Homeward, Angel - Thomas Wolfe
The Sound and the Fury - William Faulkner
A Wrinkle in Time - Madeline L'Engle
One Hundred Years of Solitude - Gabriel Garcia Marquez
The Road - Cormac McCarthy
The Razor's Edge - W. Somerset Maugham
Sula - Toni Morrison
The Garden of Eaden - Earnest Hemingway
...well here I go, first To The Lighthouse

Joshua Katcher
So, while stumbling around the interweb as I do, I came upon the Discerning Brute a blog/website that is geared to the environmentally friendly, fashion forward guy...and I must say...I am so happy to find that there are other guys out there like me who can be a "hippy" but still look good doing it. There is also a large focus on the vegan diet which...I am not fully on the bandwagon of...but I do love a good vegan meal and who knows...deep down in my bacon loving world may live a celery sucker after all...:) anyway just check it out...I have been on his site for awhile...
Take care,
Robby

Untitled Self Discovery Project.
This is just a little something that I am working on, I am trying to find this guy again. I want to be him again. So I figure I would write everything down and try to figure out where I lost that guy and became who I am. Tell me what you think.
I was told by my instructor that he knew that I was something special when on my first day in the kitchen I walked into his office and immediatly shouted, "Oh my gosh, you have Alice Waters autograph! HAVE YOU MET HER? Little did he know that on that day I walked into that kitchen excited to the point of boiling. I was also beside myself embarassed because I arrived in a sweatshirt and jeans to find my classmates all in their chef whites. I was told this was not a problem, it was however my first day, but when we broke for lunch I raced home and ran to change while yelling at my grandmother to fix me a sandwich. I came back in my perfectly white chef's coat feeling much better around my contemporaries, feeling like we where a whole unit now, our own little brigade. This was my first day, I was on my way to becoming a chef.

Deep Sea Diver
Best quote ever.
"Im pretty sure about 90 percent of the guys in here...just fell in love" - Rory
A.A. Bondy...was (mom cover your ears) a badass. There was no better way to put it.
Sereously. Im done. It was like I dont even know...words cannot describe the weights lifted off my chest. It was one of those nights where everything was just...sigh. I fell back in love with the world tonight.
...I wish I could live tonight forever.
and now I am off to sleep. Goognight Moon.

My New Favorite Quote...Ever!
"I believe in pink.
I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner.
I believe in kissing, kissing a lot.
I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong.
I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls.
I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles."
-Audrey Hepburn

I want to start making some kind of art again. I go to this site all the time and try and get inspiration.
Like this video:
I know the best thing for me to do is just to do it. But I dont know, maybe what has been wrong with me the past few weeks is that I dont have a place to get all my frustrations out.
Im also kind of obsessed with this guy too.

I dont care if it is a purse
Im kind of obsessed with that bag.
If you click here, it will take you to the shop it's drika.b and I am pretty sure I am in love with all of those bags. There was a clutch that had a pig on it that was rediculous.
If you look at the other pictures of the grey tote there is a place to put a magazine and in this case she used an old copy of domino, which...made me sad...I miss that magazine.
I have a confession.
I know I preach till I am blue in the face about going local and eating organic, but there is one thing I absolutly cannot live without.
So bad its good Chinese Buffet food.
There I said it.
....and I feel alot better...and full :)

First of all I would like to say Happy Fathers Day! To all those Fathers in the world.
I have seen the movie "The Proposal", and I have to say that it was truly one of the best "rom-coms" I have seen in quite sometime. It followed all of those typical plot lines, but you know what who really cares, I laughed at points, I got misty at points...
I am trying to keep my chin up about the C.O.A. thing, I am feeling down about it but I have been told by several people, I have no patience for anything that I want, which is true because truth be told I want to be up there as soon as I can. I really have nothing else on my mind. I have been praying and sending out the good vibes so lets hope some of the positive energy will come back to me.
I ripped down all of my old, old, old fashion photos off my wall and have began putting up pictures of people like Wendell Berry and maps of Maine, as well as inspirational quotesto help remind me I am following my bliss.
I was thinking the other day that no one should be supprised that it has taken me this long to reach this point in my life and I did it on my own when I was ready. Same thing happened when I rode a bicycle the first time, drove a car...I just bloom later in life and I do it on my own terms.
Well I am going to go put on some music and sleep for awhile.
Keep it beautiful,
Robby

So....
I sent in for the information for the College of the Atlantic. My goal is to be there in time for the Spring of next year or the fall.
Time ot get busy my friends.
Remind me of this when you see me about to make needless purchases, punch my arm and say "Hey Kid, remember COA!"
...I am sereous about this folks, its now or never.
I was thinking the other day about how most major things in my life it has taken me doing it on my own when I was ready....
Like riding a bicycle
Driving
....so I am just a late bloomer in life I suppose, and I dont think there is anything wrong with that....
....Keep it beautiful my friends I love you all.
